Claes

I have lived most of my life in Helsinki or Espoo. My creative work is inspired by everything in my surroundings. Buildings, objects, people – especially nature, animals and the sea make up a treasury, where I can look for ideas and satisfaction. Travels in my own country and abroad are important sources of energy. Cultures, scents, atmospheres provide new vigour in my work as a goldsmith.

Tempted by my great passion – boating – I began by studying construction of boats. Later on I continued my studies at Lahden Muotoiluinstituutti, where I graduated as a goldsmith in 1992.

I started my workshop Jalometallisepänpaja Claes Nyström at Korkeavuorenkatu 41 in the center of Helsinki almost 20 years ago. Since then appreciation of the art of handicraft has improved considerably. Objects are more often made to order – it is no big deal. In the 90-ies I was one of the first goldsmiths to open the doors of my workshop to my customers.

The customers demand jewelry with quality and individual features. Direct  contact to the manufacturer is really profitable. In this way you avoid intermediaries and misunderstandings. Successful cooperation may give you lasting relations with regular patrons. In my daily work my ambition is to keep the customer content and happy.

My workshop is situated in the very heart of Helsinki, just one block from the Etelä-Esplanadi, in the Helsinki Design District area. Welcome!
